Introduction to X-ray CT Theory and data collection techniques (Online course)
Two day course that focuses on the fundamental principles behind X-ray CT and best practice for data collection. The course is ideal for those looking to use X-ray CT for None Destructive Evaluation (NDE) and how to maximise data quality. The course covers the following topics:
- Overview of X-ray CT stages in data collection and processing
- Brief history of X-ray CT development
- Radiation safety when working within laboratories
- Instrument hardware components, functions and options
- X-ray CT principles for calculating magnification, pixel size and instrument setup
- Tomographic reconstruction principles, reconstruction artefacts and how to avoid or minimise these
- Basic principles of data segmentation and analysis (very brief intro)
- Optimising specimen preparation
- Fundamentals to metrology and good practice
Level 2
Optimising X-ray CT instrument setup & use of Image Quality Indicators (IQI)
Two day in person training course focussed on the use of both 2D and 3D Image Quality Indicators (IQI).
- Setup of 2D IQI for optimising radiographic spatial resolution
- Setup of 3D IQI for optimising reconstructed spatial resolution
- Data collection methods and the effect on data quality
- Software calculations for spatial resolution for both 2D & 3D IQI
Level 3
Defect metrology in X-ray Computed Tomography (CT)
Two day in person course that covers voxel calibration, the principles behind image quality and defect detection in X-ray CT. The course contains information on how X-ray instruments and scan setup can be optimised for the detection of defects in components:
- Overview of X-ray CT & metrology for NDE
- Basic configuration of X-ray CT instruments
- Voxel calibration techniques and ruby sphere gauges
- Calibrating voxel size & metrology X-ray CT systems
- Image quality and spatial resolution
- Optimisation of X-ray instrument geometric setup
- X-ray CT reconstruction parameters and the effect on spatial resolution
- Application of Image Quality Indicators for spatial resolution, measurement confidence of defects
